John and Linda Carter
John and Linda Carter were both born and raised in Pendleton, Oregon. They have a multi-generational background in Oregon agriculture. John has degrees from Stanford University and Harvard Law School, and after retiring from Bechtel Group, Inc. in 2002, returned to Oregon. He is now the Chairman of the Board at Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc., among other business and community positions. Linda graduated from Juilliard School of Music and has a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan. After a performing career in New York with the Jose Limon Dance Company, she was the head of the Dance Department at Scripps College in Claremont, California. She remains active in her family ranch business in the Pendleton area.
During his years at Stanford, when the Napa Valley wine industry was just starting its rapid expansion, John developed a keen interest in wine and winemaking, which was later expanded through business partners and friends in the wine business.
The Carter Family
Courtney Carter Charney was involved in the Dusky Goose adventure from the start, helping to provide communications, graphic design, and general advice to the project. Without her organization and enthusiasm, we would not have been able to offer our first vintage. Courtney, a Stanford University graduate, is married to Michael Charney and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with their daughter, Avery. She is in the residential real estate business on the San Francisco Peninsula. Doug Carter, also a Stanford University graduate, is with the consulting firm Accenture. He received his Masters in Business Administration from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business. He has contributed greatly to the venture, and has a keen interest in the agricultural techniques used and soil composition of the vineyards. Doug and his wife Haley, also a Stanford graduate as well as an MBA graduate from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, are now living in the San Francisco Bay Area as well. Chris Carter, a graduate of Boston College, and Villanova Law School, is currently an associate with the Bingham McCutchen law firm and is living in Boston. Chris adds his touch and taste to the business from afar with his wife Courtney, who is pursuing her doctorate in psychology following her graduation from Boston College with Chris. Courtney, Doug and Chris were essential to the formation of the project and the selection of our label design and trademarked Dusky Goose name!
Tamara and John Lundgren
Tamara Lundgren has been interested and involved in the Dusky Goose wine project as our East Coast ambassador for Dusky Goose almost from the start. Tamara is a graduate of Wellesley College and Northwestern School of Law, and has a distinguished background in international finance and investment banking. She is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer at Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. She and her husband John, who is Chairman and CEO of Stanley Black & Decker, live in Connecticut. Both Tamara and John have had exceptional international careers, giving them a broad perspective on the quality of wines around the world, and the standards we wish to achieve here at Dusky Goose.
